This is what the Arab states allied with Washington were calling for. They did not want to commit without it. And that can only be done within the framework of the U.N. Security Council. The U.S. resolution is looking to establish a peace committee for transitional governance in Gaza over two years, and to deploy an international stabilization force. Its mission would be to secure borders, protect civilians, and disarm Palestinian militias as well as Hamas. It's the most sensitive point in Donald Trump's plan. Officially, Hamas has never admitted that it was willing to surrender its weapons, except in the event of the establishment of a Palestinian state. We are a long way from that, but behind the scenes, they have understood that it is necessary, at the very least, to store and monitor the remaining heavy weapons in depots under international supervision. In response to the U.S. resolution, Russia is proposing an alternative text, without a peace committee and without the immediate deployment of an international force.
