According to the New York Times, Trump is assessing whether Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo has the best chance to defeat Mamdani, though Cuomo's team denies any recent discussions with Trump about the race.

Several political figures have weighed in, with Republican Curtis Sliwa advising Trump to remain neutral and political analyst J.C. Polanco warning that a Trump endorsement could be detrimental in New York City. Mayor Adams has not commented on the matter, and his office has not responded to requests for a statement.

What sparked this hot topic among some of the candidates is some of the latest reporting from the New York Times, which says President Trump wants to back a candidate that would stop Mondani from winning, while figuring out who has the best chance to beat him, whether it's Eric Adams or Andrew Cuomo. It also says Trump has had a phone conversation with Cuomo, something Cuomo's team denies. In a statement, a spokesperson for Cuomo said the governor and the president have not spoken in some time. As far as I know, they have not discussed the race. Did you have a phone call with Andrew Cuomo? Did you speak to Andrew Cuomo? I haven't. No, I haven't. Political analyst J.C. Polanco says it might be best if Trump stays in the background. There are many ways that President Trump could be helpful. The worst way would be an endorsement. It's the kiss of death of New York City. Independent candidate Jim Walden in a statement said Andrew Cuomo needs all the help he can get, but he is looking for love in all the wrong places. Now, we do want to mention that at an event yesterday, Mayor Adams did not take questions pertaining to this subject matter or the mayoral race in general. We did reach out to his office for comment, and at least as of this hour, we have not heard back yet. That's the latest at this time.
