This is because of ByteDance's reported relationship with the Chinese government. While the TikTok bill has passed the House, and President Biden has said he would sign, and even though his campaign maintains a TikTok account, before it gets to the president's desk, it must first get through the Senate, where there remains big questions as to whether or not it will pass. And that is where TikTok is hoping to fight back. On the social media site, posts like this have come up in recent days, prompting Americans to call members of Congress. The company has encouraged entrepreneurs who use the site, like Nadia Okamoto, to speak out. This platform is so much more than silly little TikTok dances, right? I primarily have used the platform to make content about growing my business, being a 26-year-old entrepreneur. TikTok is also employing lobbyists to try and block the bill. Politico first reported that longtime Trump advisor Kellyanne Conway is lobbying senators in support of TikTok. Former President Trump has also spoken critically of the legislation in recent interviews, and a number of members of Congress who voted against the bill in the House have told Scripps News a ban is a slippery slope. This is not our job to do this, and I think there should be a broader conversation about the role of tech. I don't know why you want to upset young people. For the moment, it appears as though TikTok's lobbying efforts are working in the Senate. Senators have told reporters in recent days they expect a thoughtful deliberation on the bill, slowing down the process and raising the possibility that a Senate vote may never even happen.
