Police reports indicate that the boy arrived at Rhodes Middle School wearing a mask, camouflage jacket, and tactical pants, reportedly supplied by his mother, but left the premises soon after. He was later arrested off campus. The investigation was initiated after the boy’s grandmother alerted law enforcement, stating she had found him hitting a live bullet with a hammer and that he had told her his mother gave him ammunition and bought him tactical gear.

Further searches by the grandmother reportedly uncovered ammunition and an improvised explosive device wrapped with duct tape, referencing the 2019 New Zealand mosque shooting. Authorities had prior contact with the boy in January, after school staff discovered drawings in his possession that included a labeled map of the school with "Suicide Route." According to an affidavit, when questioned by investigators, Pardo admitted to purchasing the supplies for her son in exchange for his help babysitting his siblings and indicated she was not concerned about his behavior.

Ashley Rosalindo Pardo was released on a $75,000 bond, according to criminal records. The investigation remains ongoing.

But when investigators questioned his mother, according to the affidavit, she did not feel concerned for his behavior. Later admitting she purchased her son's supplies, including ammo, in exchange for babysitting his younger siblings. Criminal records indicate Pardo was released Tuesday on a bond of $75,000.
