CNBC's Phil LeBeau joins 'Squawk on the Street' to report on Tesla's Q1 deliveries, which were down 14% from last quarter.

Tesla announced that it delivered 358,023 vehicles in the first quarter, which was below analyst expectations of 370,000. Production for the quarter reached 394,000 vehicles, with 95% of deliveries being Model 3 and Model Y models, consistent with previous quarters. 

The company also reported energy storage deployments of 8.8 gigawatt hours, significantly under the anticipated 14.4 gigawatt hours. Tesla's first-quarter financial results are scheduled for release on April 22, and this marks the second consecutive year of delivery declines for the company.

Take a look at shares of Tesla, the company delivering in the first quarter 358,023 vehicles. That was shy of expectations. The street was expecting deliveries of 370,000 vehicles for the first quarter, production of 394,000. By the way, with deliveries, as expected, 95% of the deliveries are the Model 3 and the Model Y. That's the way it's been for several quarters here. 8.8 gigawatt hours of energy storage deployments in the first quarter. That is well below what the street was expecting. It was expecting 14.4 gigawatt hours in energy storage deployments. April 22nd after the bell, guys, that is when we get the Q1 financials. And that's probably when we hear from Elon Musk next. Although you never know with him, David, you know, he sometimes decides he wants to talk before that. So that is the story with Tesla and their Q1 deliveries. But he'll be talking about robo taxis and an optimist, I would assume, when he talks, right? He's not going to talk about necessarily. That's why the delivery numbers, David, they're not going to move the stock right now. It is all about if you're buying into his belief on robotics, autonomous, AI and all of that. That's two consecutive full years of delivery deplines, Jim. Company's never done that. No.
