An estimated 90,000 people have walked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge in rainy weather as part of a pro-Palestinian protest. NSW Police have just asked Harbour Bridge protesters to stop the rally due to safety issues.

The march, organised to call for peace in Gaza, followed a Supreme Court ruling that allowed pro-Palestine organisers to proceed with the event. 

Participants included high-profile figures such as Julian Assange and journalist Antoinette Latouf, who joined a diverse crowd despite inclement weather. The demonstration was marked by peaceful calls for an end to violence and highlighted issues such as starvation and the impact on children in conflict zones. Police maintained a visible presence, and city leaders addressed the crowd, emphasising the themes of humanity, peace, and democracy.

Sydney Harbour Bridge swamped by a tidal wave for humanity in what many believe was the biggest anti-war protest Australia has ever seen and what a stage for the first time the world-famous coat hanger turned into an authorised anti-war protest deck. In a highly rare move the bridge was closed to traffic just before lunch to allow massive crowds to march for peace in Gaza after pro-Palestine organisers yesterday won Supreme Court backing to have their say. How does it feel walking onto the Harbour Bridge? This I mean this is incredible and the point is to do it with a hundred thousand people trying to stop a genocide that's what we need to do. We said we need people power, we said this bridge would be a powerful symbol for that and these are images of who knows how many people are here to be beamed around the world to say we have the power to stop this genocide. Front and centre Julian Assange in a rare public appearance since his release from jail. Few know better the fight for freedom of speech alongside unfairly sacked journalist Antoinette Latouf. Everybody needs to stand united and they are if you look around at the crowd behind us. Can you believe you're marching over the bridge? I can't and I can't believe that we're finally acknowledging starvation. The very thing that I got fired from two years ago, almost two years ago with the ABC. The weather was miserable but there was no holding back. This sea of umbrellas every man woman and their dog joining the march. Why are you here? Well to stand for peace. Yeah, standing for the people of Palestine, free Palestine. There's too many deaths of young children, too much starvation and the world needs to do something about it. Trains were still crossing the bridge providing one of the best views of what felt like a never-ending stream of protesters. Hundreds of police were there too on horseback, on bikes, in the air and on the ground. But this was a rally for peace. Because I'm against war crimes, against humanity. The genocide in Palestine is not okay. Stop the genocide. It's gone on far too long. Earlier protesters heard from city leaders. And this march is really about humanity, it's about peace and it's about democracy. So even though it's pouring with rain we're out here. Former boxing world champs. Humanity as a whole should come together. Organisers pleading for children. We rage, we resist, we remember every mother, every father and every child. And children pleading for children. I'm here to support Palestine because they're dying of hunger. The Harbour Bridge, far from closed to the people, this was a day it quite literally supported the people as they stood up to have their say.
