Witnesses reported that the altercation involved about ten teens, and at least two people were injured, including one who was stabbed in the hand while trying to protect another.

Police confirmed that the suspect, also 17 years old, remained at the scene until authorities arrived and was subsequently taken into custody. A memorial has been set up at the site, and the school district has not yet commented on the incident. The investigation is ongoing, with updates expected as more information becomes available.

Today's Wednesday, April 1st and we're looking live at the Oakland estuary here and the cloudy weather we're going to have rain on and off and we're going to talk about the weather in just a moment. But we want to start in the South Bay with a developing story we've been bringing to you all morning long. Community is in mourning after a violent confrontation turned deadly. Witnesses tell KTVU a teenager was stabbed and killed in a neighborhood just steps away from Milpitas High School. KTVU's Amanda Catana is live from the scene. She spoke with witnesses who saw this tragedy unfold. Amanda, what did they say? Yes, so I spoke to witnesses earlier this morning, but we actually just got into our newsroom confirmation from police as well. They say it was a 17-year-old high school student who was stabbed here. You can see there is a memorial here that people have been coming to this morning, you know, before work, before school. Friends and neighbors have set up these candles, flowers, along with a Bible. Those witnesses that I spoke to earlier did not want to be shown on camera, but they say They saw the stabbing. They saw the fight. A group of about 10 teens, all dressed in black. They were here fighting. At least two people were stabbed, one of them in the hand as they tried to shield the other. A friend of the victim also stopped by the memorial before school with tears in his eyes. Witnesses also say a teacher that happened to be driving by stopped and tried to break up the fight. She's like, stop, someone call 911. When I ran over there, he was just laying on the ground, he was bleeding from his stomach. He wasn't talking. His girlfriend was trying to cover, and he just sat there and kind of just went away. Eyes rolled behind his head. We're calling 911, trying to get the police here as fast as we could. And when he got here, they just kept doing CPR on him and put him in the ambulance and took him away. Now, the witnesses say the person who had the weapon, the suspect we now know, was also a 17-year-old, just sat next to the scene until police arrived. All of this information, as I said, we just got into our newsroom from the Milpitas Police Department. We have not heard from the school district, who we have also reached out to because we know he was a high school student. It's unclear what high school he went to, but we know that Milpitas high school students were involved in this whole fight. So we're still trying to learn more information, but what we know is a 17-year-old that was stabbed and killed here in this neighborhood near Milpitas High School.
