A 17-year old boy has been arrested following a wild police pursuit through Sydney that saw a police officer injured and a shot fired at an allegedly stolen car.

During the incident, police cornered the vehicle, fired a gunshot, and deployed a taser, but the suspects managed to escape after injuring an officer. The pursuit began in Western Sydney and continued to Leichhardt, with the suspects eventually abandoning the car in Petersham and fleeing on foot. Authorities later arrested a 17-year-old boy believed to be involved, while investigations into the incident continue.

It's amazing that the car they were pursuing got away, given it is a dead-end street. But police did, at least for a moment, have the duo cornered at the end of the cul-de-sac. I see the policeman fire the gun and I heard it and I thought, oh, my gosh, should I shut the front door? Another deployed a taser, but before they could make an arrest, one officer was hit by the car door and concussed. Police say the driver then rammed through the police barrier and sped off. Oof! Oof, ladies! He's gone! Something out of a movie. Locals left to clean up after the night of chaos. Smashed into our step, continued on. Don't know how he didn't hit anyone. Police started tracking the car at 9.15 last night in Western Sydney, pursuing it along the M4 to Leichhardt. The bus at our patch back was ditched on the side of the road just one suburb over in Petersham, but the chase wasn't over. Cameras spotted these two, believed to be the duo, just after 9.30, running away from where the car was dumped and slipping out of sight. Police now several minutes behind them. Despite the enormous police response spanning more than 30km across Sydney, this street is where the trail dried up. The pair clearly determined to get away. But authorities were also determined to finish the job, this afternoon arresting a 17-year-old boy they believe was one of the offenders. Their work isn't over yet. Tallulah Thompson, 10 News.
