None of the arrests occurred on school grounds, but the proximity to schools has heightened fears among parents and students.

In response, teachers and community organizations have initiated patrols near schools to monitor for ICE presence and provide information to students and families. The patrols, organized by groups such as the Association of Raza Educators and Union del Barrio, were planned prior to the recent incidents but have gained renewed urgency. Organizers emphasize the importance of making students feel supported and safe at school, noting concerns about the potential trauma for children witnessing immigration enforcement actions nearby.

Recent ICE detainments near schools in the county have left communities on edge this back-to-school season. The most recent was last Thursday when ICE arrested a parent on Olser Street with Linda Vista Elementary right in view. Video shows ICE agents took the man out of his car while he was waiting to pick up his child from school. ICE says the parent was an undocumented immigrant fraudulently using a US Social Security number. San Diego Unified had to contact his wife to come and pick up the child left at school. Parents say the arrest has left fear growing in the community. You shouldn't have to be scared to bring your kids to school because of all this nonsense. It's not like they said they're supposed to be going after criminals. What criminals you know will take their kids to school and pick their kids school up. Now a group of teachers and community members are planning to take action to keep families and children near schools safe. ABC 10 News reporter Laura Acevedo shows us the teacher patrols happening tomorrow that were already in the works long before last week's arrest. These teacher patrols are happening Tuesday morning here near Lincoln High School and although ICE has not gone into any campus in San Diego County there have been two recent arrests near elementary schools. Instead of teaching in the classroom Tuesday teachers who are a part of several community organizations will be out on patrol. Patrolling the area for ICE presence to ensure that the community is aware of if there is ICE presence and two we're going to be passing out information to students at Lincoln High School. Erendira Ramirez is a member of the Association of Raza Educators and Union del Barrio. Both organizations are hosting teacher patrols Tuesday to look out for ICE near schools. They say as a show of support for students and their families. That they're not alone that they should feel safe coming to school because we understand that maybe sometimes they may not get the message that they are being supported. The teacher patrols were planned long before the recent ICE arrest near Linda Vista and Camarena Elementary schools where both times a parent was arrested around school drop off or pickup times. ICE says one had a deportation order another is accused of fraudulently using a U.S. Social Security number. None of the arrests happened on school grounds. We want to ensure that the community understands parents students understand that the maestros care about their well-being and they're coming to school. ICE has repeatedly stated they aren't going on to school campuses but volunteers worry that any immigration enforcement action near a school could have long-term effects on a child. You're right you're not on campus but there is a child involved and there is a child that's being you know traumatized in addition to all the other folks that are witnessing it. Tuesday's patrols start at 730 outside Lincoln High School. This is the first of several planned teacher patrols. Laura Acevedo, ABC 10 News.
