The incident took place near a strip mall, where officers attempted to apprehend a suspect, resulting in an altercation and shots being fired. The suspect was transported to a local hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. One officer was evaluated at the scene and released, while an independent investigation into the shooting is being conducted by West Valley police. The incident happened here at 7800 South. It began as an investigation by the Utah County Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Task Force. It ended with a shooting right near this curb. West Jordan police tell us the incident happened late this morning after 11. It culminating in front of the Jordan Square strip mall. When we arrived, it appeared that several unmarked law enforcement vehicles were involved, and a Honda sedan could be seen that clearly had five bullet holes in his windshield. During the aftermath of the subsequent hours long investigation, the eastbound lanes of 7800 were closed from 2200 West to just west of Redwood Road. During their attempts at apprehension, there was an altercation between the task force officers and the subject that they were attempting to apprehend. And shots were fired by members of that task force. One officer from that task force was evaluated by medical on scene and released. And the subject involved in the shooting was transported to a local hospital. The sergeant added the person involved is stable. We don't know what the investigation was about that led to the shooting. We're waiting to get more details from the Utah County Sheriff's Office. As an uninvolved third party, West Valley police will conduct the investigation into what they call an officer involved critical incident. From West York, Mark Blank, Fox 13 News, Utah.
