Survivors of the Rapid Support Forces' (RSF) attack on al-Fasher in Darfur, Sudan, have described experiencing severe violence and hardship while fleeing the city. Many walked nearly 50 miles to reach a camp in Tawila, with some arriving badly wounded and reporting executions and beatings along the way.

The fall of al-Fasher marks a significant development in Sudan's civil war, with evidence of atrocities drawing international attention. Aid agencies report that only a small fraction of the city's population has reached safety, raising concerns about the fate of those still trapped or en route.

They've been through days of terror, travelling a dangerous road to escape a city under attack. Amongst the thousands who fled as the RSF seized al-Fasher in a chaos of violence. Having walked nearly 50 miles, at this last checkpoint, finally getting a ride to the camp in Tawila. Some of them arrived badly wounded. The men are often a target, the RSF suspicious they belong to the army. Reseddin Hassan says it's a miracle he made it here alive. We were divided into groups and bitten. The scenes were extremely brutal. We saw people executed in front of us. We saw people being bitten. It was really terrible. We went without food or water for three days while walking in the streets. Ahmed Osman Ibrahim got shot three times as he fled al-Fasher. There were seven of us who left together. The four of them, they killed them, they beat them and killed them. The fall of al-Fasher is a major victory for the paramilitaries, a turning point in Sudan's civil war. But it's the evidence of atrocities that has captured world attention. RSF fighters posting videos showing mass killings of unarmed people. The group has admitted some violations, but issued this footage claiming to help the people who flee al-Fasher. In fact, aid agencies worry how few have made the journey to safety in Tawila. It's supposed to be about a quarter million people in al-Fasher. But so far in the past few days, we only had about 5,000 people reaching Tawila, which may sound like good news originally, but in reality, it means that people are not reaching humanitarian aid and that they're most probably stuck either in al-Fasher or on the way.
