Academy Award-nominated actor Terence Stamp, best known for his role as General Zod in the 'Superman' series, has died at age 87. The sequel to 'Priscilla: Queen of the Desert' will proceed without his character, fan-favourite Bernadette.

Terence Stamp, the British actor renowned for his versatility and distinctive screen presence, has died. Stamp gained international recognition for his role as Bernadette in the Australian film 'The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert,' surprising audiences with his portrayal and earning widespread praise. 

Stamp's career began with an Oscar-nominated debut in 1962 and included notable roles throughout the 1960s. After a period of fewer opportunities, he returned to prominence as Zod in 'Superman' and its sequel. His last major film appearance was in 'One Night in Soho' in 2021. Plans for a sequel to 'Priscilla' will now proceed without his character, Bernadette.

Handsome, rugged Terence Stamp was famous for playing a very different type of role when he surprised fans with his turn as Bernadette in the Australian classic, The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. Just friends of mine really, you know, everybody I spoke to about it said, my God, it sounds wonderful. And I thought, I thought it was like a conspiracy to get me to make a fool of myself. But once he took on the role opposite Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving, he was determined to honour Bernadette. You know that you are a woman, it's just that you're in this, you're in the wrong body. The outback road trip was a long way from where he started, securing an Oscar nomination for his very first film role in 1962. This is Terence Stamp, the young actor hailed by famed columnist Luella Parsons as the screen's outstanding new star discovery. Throughout the 60s, he got great role after great role. Bravely born, wonderful in a woman. But then the roles dried up until a telegram arrived asking him to star as Zod in the original Superman and later its sequel. I swear eternal loyalty to Zod. His last major role was in One Night in Soho in 2021. But there was one more role on the horizon, a sequel to Priscilla that will now be missing Bernadette. It never ends, does it? All that space.
