Severe storms and tornadoes hit Wisconsin and Minnesota with a new round of severe thunderstorms expected this week.

Severe storms have prompted multiple tornado warnings in Minnesota and Wisconsin, affecting both rural and suburban areas. Meteorologists tracked several areas of rotation, including near St. Peter, New Ulm, and the suburbs west of Minneapolis, with strong outbound winds and possible tornado activity.

The National Weather Service reported confirmed tornadoes, including a multivortex tornado and a dangerous storm near Cherry in St. Louis County. In addition to tornado risks, the region is facing ongoing threats of severe thunderstorms and flooding, with further severe weather anticipated in the coming days.

Storms in the upper Midwest lead to multiple tornado warnings

We are still tracking some tornado threats on the map. We have three warnings at this point in Minnesota. One well to the north, but unfortunately we're dealing with an escalating threat into parts of the metro as well, closer to the Twin Cities. So I'm going to take this from south to north. First off, into areas near St. Peter and New Ulm. We'll zoom into this area with the Minneapolis radar site as our primary tool. And here we have a really nasty little pixel here or two, a few pixels of outbound wind, suggesting strong outbound wind. And there's the inbound. So some of these areas east of New Ulm into Nicollet County facing a developing tornado threat here. There's your area of rotation. And that will continue to move to the east as we loop this. You can see how this is ramping up and moving almost directly east. So look out in New Sweden and Oshawa, Nicollet County, until 7.15 central time a tornado warning is in effect for you. And then as we take you one step north, a little closer to the city, and here we get into areas around the suburbs here, into Leicester Prairie and Mayer and near the Waconia area, we have a screaming outbound wind signature, very strong outbound wind. I'm going to loop this to see if there's been any real inbound. And at times we have had some inbound. It's a little bit disconfigured, but overall this strong, strong outbound wind signature with some inbound on the south side indicative of a possible tornado in this area here between the area of Hamburg and Mayer. As we bring up a few labels here, this is Carver County of Minnesota moving from eastern McLeod County into western Carver County of Minnesota. Very populated suburbs here west of Minneapolis and St. Paul. We also have some severe thunderstorms continuing to move east here into areas around western Hennepin County. Up to the north, looks like the Weather Service in Duluth has allowed this tornado warning to expire because of straight-line winds, as we talked about, being the predominant threat moving into an area southwest of Duluth. But we still have an ongoing tornado threat to the north and bringing back the high-res radar data from Duluth in this case. Still a strong zone of rotation. This is holding strong. There was a time when this began to transition to straight-line winds a little bit, but it never totally lost its couplet, and now this has really fiercely ramped back up. So we are looking at a likely tornado producer approaching the community of Cherry. This is in St. Louis County of Minnesota. So look out there in the community of Cherry. You are facing a dangerous tornado threat. So big concerns there. We've had lots of reports of tornadoes. You can see a series of these. Closer to St. Cloud, there was a funnel cloud earlier as well. But again, numerous tornadoes. Some of these have produced, at least one of these, produced a multivortex tornado. We've also had, again, some trouble out in the eastern parts of Colorado with a small-scale confirmed cell earlier that hasn't been filed yet, but there was a confirmed tornado with that small-scale cell earlier. Now, Anna, the northeast is one area where we're going to face a continuation of severe flood risks in some spots. Yeah, flooding is really the focus for the next couple of days. And when we zoom in on radar, you might be thinking, okay, why this doesn't really look like much. Well, we had that significant rainfall over the weekend, not just in West Virginia, but Virginia had some flash flooding reports as well. And when we take a look at future rainfall, this gives you a better idea of why we are a little bit concerned.
