Thursday thunderstorms led to flash flooding and isolated wind damage from the mid-Atlantic into the Northeast on Sept. 25.

Severe storms have moved through the US Northeast, bringing heavy rain and triggering tornado warnings, particularly in northern Virginia and New York. The storms have resulted in damaging winds, flash flooding, and isolated incidents such as a tree falling on a delivery truck in eastern Virginia. 

While some areas have experienced only minor lightning and beneficial rainfall, others have faced more severe conditions, including road flooding in Rhode Island. Authorities are monitoring the situation and have advised residents in affected areas to take necessary precautions.

Storms dump heavy rain on the Northeast

Now we're gonna start off a little further south, far northern Virginia. That's where we have a tornado warning. It's our first of the evening into New York state. We had several tornado warnings earlier this afternoon, but not since we've been on the air starting at four p.m. So let's zoom in a little bit more here. I wanted to kind of orient exactly where we are before we really zoomed into this one isolated cell that is leading to this tornado warning. You can see it's kind of out ahead of exactly where the cell is at this point. I'll turn on the loop just so you can see how it's really strengthened over the last hour here over several radar scans. So specifically, this is for Loudoun County, Virginia. They're right along the line with Maryland. You have the state border right there. That's really our only severe threat right now, and it's a relatively small area there. But certainly if you're in that area, you know anyone in that area, you want to make sure you are taking your immediate tornado precautions and getting to a safe location. As we look farther to the north, there's not even that much lightning. We have some lightning into Delaware with one cell there, but this line of thunderstorms really only a few strikes of lightning enough to cause some issues at some airports, even recent thunderstorms. But overall, it's beneficial rainfall, especially farther to the north into somewhere like Maine. I do want to zoom out a little bit, and I want to turn on our storm reports because we have had some severe thunderstorm warnings that have led to some damaging wind reports. We've also had some flash flooding that has popped up. I want to start with this report actually coming in from eastern Virginia. Ah, tree fell on a U. P. S. Truck near an intersection of two roads. This was right around 4 20. Certainly a dangerous situation there. Hopefully everyone is okay. And then we have the flash flooding reports. Even a road flooded out in Rhode Island. They're expect to see maybe some more flash flooding reports as we go throughout the rest of the evening as we pick up several inches of rainfall.
