The total number of deaths attributed to high temperatures this year has already surpassed 3,200, exceeding last year's count of approximately 2,500. 

Nine regions remain under alert as temperatures are forecast to reach up to 42 degrees Celsius in some areas, while major cities like Barcelona, Malaga, and Valencia are experiencing slightly lower but still elevated temperatures. The national meteorological agency anticipates the current heatwave will continue for several more days.

That's a 57 percent increase from one year earlier and a 54.5 percent increase compared to July 2023. So far this year, over 3,200 deaths in Spain are attributable to high temperatures, far exceeding last year's total of around 2,500. Nine regions are currently under alert for extreme temperatures, which are expected to reach up to 42 degrees in some places. In Barcelona, Malaga and Valencia, temperatures will remain at a notably lower level, ranging from 30 to 33 degrees. Spain's state meteorological agency expects the heatwave to last at least until next Sunday.
