Brisbane

A severe thunderstorm moved through Brisbane and surrounding regions, producing heavy rain, loud lightning, and reports of trees down, particularly in Logan. The western areas of Brisbane, including Gatton, Pratton, and Esk, experienced the most significant impact, with giant hail causing damage to vehicles and homes.

The Bureau of Meteorology has not reported tornado-like conditions but maintains severe thunderstorm warnings for much of southeast Queensland and the western Downs, with storms tracking toward the Gold Coast. Authorities advise residents to monitor warnings and radar, reconsider travel plans, and prepare for further rain forecast for the coming night and the following day.

Oh, Chris, in the last hour or so, Brisbane has seen a very severe thunderstorm come through that's brought loud lightning and heavy rain as well. Reports of trees down in areas like Logan south of the city. But it's really those western parts, west of Brisbane I should say, that have caught the worst of it today. Areas like Gatton, Pratton and Esk where there's been giant hail that's caused damage to cars and hit roofs of homes as well. We haven't seen those tornado-like conditions that the Bureau of Meteorology was talking about yesterday yet, but there is severe thunderstorm warnings in place for large parts of southeast Queensland and the western Downs with a severe thunderstorm tracking towards the Gold Coast at the moment. That's the message from the Bureau at the moment to check for those warnings, to also check the radar, especially if you're going out tonight, to reconsider those plans and to look before you go out. There is more rain forecast for tonight and also, Chris, forecast for tomorrow. We'll have to wait and see what those conditions bring.
