Authorities state that only small patches of the bloom remain near Wyella, Gulf St Vincent, and Kangaroo Island. With water clarity improving and fish stocks returning, restrictions on recreational fishing in Spencer Gulf have been eased, raising hopes for a tourism boost during the holiday season.

It doesn't look frothy, it doesn't look like it did before, so it looks very different. I was chatting to people from the English Cricket Board that are staying down at Henley, and only yesterday said to me, what was that bloom thing? And I was like, that's a relief. Cricket fans and families alike are descending on Adelaide's metro beaches as the harmful algal bloom continues to make itself scarce. I've got a one and a half year old, he's been in plenty of times and no issues with him. We've been swimming nearly every day for the last two weeks, and yeah, quick shower after, but no etching, no after effects at all. Authorities say only patches of the bloom linger near Wyella, Gulf St Vincent and Kangaroo Island. While they're not claiming victory over the bloom, it could be on the horizon. Late December, January, February, that's when we get those cold, nutrient-rich waters come up from the deep. We get over that hump, then I think we can be really confident in making a declaration. For those travelling to regional SA, restrictions on recreational fishing have eased on the Spencer Gulf just in time for the holidays. We've seen water clear up, we've seen fish stocks come back into the gulfs, we've seen an increase in reported catches.
