However, the wintry conditions have led to significant travel disruptions, with major airports such as Amsterdam's Schiphol cancelling hundreds of flights and rail networks experiencing delays.

Sub-zero temperatures and blizzards have also caused power outages, notably in southern Romania, and made road travel difficult in regions like Scotland. Weather forecasts indicate that snow and ice are expected to continue affecting travel across Europe in the coming days.

In England we thought we had problems with snow. We assumed countries like this would be able to deal with snow. Obviously not. It's a similar story on many European rail networks. While those trying to keep roads clear for drivers in places like Scotland... face a thankless task. Tens of thousands have also been left without power in southern Romania... because of outages caused by a strong blizzard. For travellers, the bad news is forecasters say the snow and ice... is likely to cause more disruption over the coming days.
