Thousands of Australians have soared to new heights in a bid to make history on World Skydiving Day. The thrill seekers are calling for the sport to be included in the 2032 Olympics.

Thousands of Australians took part in a coordinated skydiving event at 34 locations nationwide, aiming to set a new world record for the most jumps in one day. The event, part of World Skydive Day, sought to break last year's record of 2,700 jumps, with organisers targeting 3,000 jumps within 24 hours.

Participants described the experience as exhilarating, highlighting the sense of community among skydivers from across the country. The governing body also expressed hopes that increased visibility would help skydiving gain recognition as an Olympic sport, following Australia's second-place finish to the United States in the previous year's attempt.

Today, thousands of Australians took part in World Skydive Day across 34 locations in the hope of setting a world record for most jumps in one day. From Airlie Beach to Rottnest Island in the West, and the goal is to break last year's record of 2,700 jumps. All know people from Queensland, Northern Territory, West Australia. We all know each other. We talk to each other regularly. It's like a big family. The opportunity, a once in a lifetime experience. Just close your eyes, and you open your eyes, and then you're out there. And then you spin, and it's freaking awesome. Skydiving is just ridiculous. Just as soon as you fall and jump out of the plane, there's nothing really like it. When everyone started jumping out, and in one second, we're already out and enjoying this free fall. As well as aiming to etch Australia into the history books, the governing body is setting its sights even higher, hoping the extreme sport will become an Olympic event. We want the sport to be accessible to everybody and everybody to do it, and to be recognized sport as being more than just a pleasure thing on the weekend. This year, Australia is hoping to up the ante after placing second to America during last year's world record attempt. Organizers have set a sky-high target of 3,000 jumps in just 24 hours. It's not fair. They do it in summer, and we're doing it in winter. But all that being aside, yeah, we're going to try and kick their ass. Do it again. I recommend it to anyone, seriously.
