A cyclist has spent the night in hospital after he was bashed by six men armed with baseball bats at Airds in Sydney's south-west. His attackers remain on the run.

A 51-year-old cyclist in Airds, New South Wales, was assaulted by a group of at least six men after being chased and struck by a black car and a white utility vehicle. The attackers exited their vehicles and assaulted the man with baseball bats before fleeing the scene. Neighbours reported hearing screams and called emergency services, with the victim receiving treatment for arm injuries and spending the night in hospital. Police have collected evidence and are investigating the relationships between those involved, as well as the motive behind the attack.

Cycling at speed out of sheer desperation, second rider two tries to outpace his tailgating pursuers but the black car and white utility close in. The victim said he was being chased and they came up and hit him with the car. At least six men then exit the vehicles, approaching and assaulting the 51-year-old cyclist with baseball bats. They fled the scene no more than a minute later. It was really harrowing, they were terrible screams. And I came out to see what it was all about and my neighbour, he stopped me and said no, he says it's alright, go inside, we've called the ambulance and we've called the police. A car passing by, witnessing the aftermath, the occupants running out to help. Police pulling up ten minutes later. It was extremely terrible and it was going on for a good hour. The rider's arm injuries were treated by paramedics before he spent the night in hospital. His clothing bagged as evidence, this pushbike too, subject to the police investigation. I wasn't there when I came home last night. Other neighbours here too frightened to speak on camera today after last night's events but say the cyclist screamed multiple times for help. Police are now investigating several leads trying to piece together the relationship between all eight men, if any, the attacker's current whereabouts and the possible motive. Nothing like it, never. What's he talking about?
