Severe storms will once again threaten parts of the South as we get into the latter part of the week. Thursday and Friday, storms are expected to fire up across the South, including much of Oklahoma and Texas.

A developing weather system is forecast to impact the southern United States, beginning in the Southern Plains and moving eastward. The system will draw moisture from both the Pacific and the Gulf of Mexico, leading to the formation of thunderstorms, particularly in Oklahoma and surrounding areas.

As the system progresses, it will bring rain from Kansas and Missouri down to the Gulf Coast, eventually affecting the Southeast and Florida. The region, which has been experiencing dry conditions, is expected to receive much-needed rainfall, though there is also a risk of flash flooding due to the heavy showers.

Severe weather ramps up across South late-week

As we go into our Thursday that's when we'll first start to see the impacts when we talk about severe weather with this system into the Southern Plains and again this ball of energy bringing in some of that moisture off of the Pacific, tapping into some of that moisture into the Gulf. And that means that you are going to see the warm sector getting through Oklahoma and that is where you see the storms fire up is within that warm sector. The warm front is a leading edge of that warm air and within that you're going to get some lift, you're going to get some moisture and you're going to get some jet energy winds. And so that means that we do have the potential for some thunderstorms to develop. Notice on Thursday it really starts to get its act together for us. There's your rain, especially on Friday, Kansas City, Springfield, Oklahoma City, this whole system starts moving eastbound. Saturday we get the rain from essentially Kansas and Missouri down to the Gulf Coast for us. And then that continues to progress eastbound here. There is a high pressure off to the east that's kind of slowing it. But Sunday into Monday it goes through the southeast. Florida gets in on some of the impacts from this as well. And we will see some heavier showers which is much needed here. Really throughout the south it's very dry. Both models giving us some decent totals here Jim. But you're also going to have to deal with the flash flooding.
