Chaos at a demolition derby moves from the field to the crowd. Oh, my God! It's amazing. It was 6.15 last night at the Walker Motorcycle Rally when things went south. The out-of-control car headed straight for the stands, burst through a fence and ploughed down spectators. We just saw people just flying, bodies just flying. It was... Yeah, it was pretty distressing to see. The carnage was significant. 13 people were injured, with two men the worst off. The pair, aged 54 and 34, were airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a critical condition. Both of them were in the grandstand at the time of impact. We actually had a total of 14 ambulances that responded, including two supervisors. We had four helicopters and a fixed-wing asset. All with the help of bystanders battling sodden conditions, including former nurse Mayo Felton. The lady had a leg injury, so her hip, her knee, her shin and two of her toes. Giving her lots of cuddles to stop her from going into shock, keep her warm. The 27-year-old driver, Stephen Taylor, meanwhile, has been discharged from hospital. His rattled brother, Blake, took to social media. My brother, Stephen, has hit a car in the middle of the field. As he's going to drive forward, he's blacked out. His foot has been wedged hard on the accelerator to the point Stephen has not stopped. Walking past the demolished grandstand and a battered golf buggy that was in his brother's path, Blake begged others to know the dangers of the sport. Definitely not a good feeling. And we love everyone. We're here to put a show on, not to hurt people. The mayor says the event's safety measures will be reassessed when the police investigation wraps up. There was a very solemn, hollow feeling this morning. I think, you know, everybody's in shock.
