Wilson, the first elected socialist in Seattle's modern history, has prioritized initiatives such as free summer care for K-8 students and social housing. As her team is formed, questions remain about how these priorities will be funded amid a projected budget deficit, and further details about key appointments are expected in the coming weeks.

Mayor-elect Katie Wilson has hit the ground running. She made her first speech to the people of Seattle after Mayor Harrell conceded yesterday and attended a union rally supporting Starbucks baristas. With about a month before she takes office, we're taking a closer look at who may be on her transition team. FOX 13's Alejandra Guzman joining us in studio. So, why the transition team? Why is that so important? I mean, look at it this way. Everyone knows that when you're the mayor of the city of Seattle, you're the face. But at the end of the day, why people at home should care about this is because those are the people that she surrounds herself with that are going to help impact and influence her policies. Now, David Hanna, I've been making calls all day trying to figure out exactly who may be, you know, trying to get close to the source. And while I don't want to spoil or steal the mayor-elect Katie Wilson's thunder, we do want to know who is going to be helping shape her incoming administration. And let's just say that there are a lot of names floating around. Some familiar faces and they come from all backgrounds. And in the search for answers, well, I came across one name some of you may recognize. Dr. Amy Barden. She's the chief of what's known as the C.A.R.E. team. The C.A.R.E. team is a group of social workers who collaborate with Seattle police officers to respond to mental health crisis calls. Barden confirmed that she and Wilson spoke before Wilson formally launched her campaign. And she says that Wilson has been very supportive of her and her ideas, but she says that she has no intention of leaving her chief role. And when it comes to transition teams, as I was saying, David, I mean, mayors usually look for a diverse mix. People with experience in city government, finance, social services, business leaders and labor unions. And of course, some community advocates. The goal here is simple. Help Wilson deliver on her campaign promises and set top priorities and map out her day one actions. I sat down with political Sandeep Kashyap to get his take new administration coming from the different side of the political divide. There's lots of names out there that are getting thrown around, but I think she's gonna have to make some decisions about does she want to go in a more ideological direction, a more kind of like, you know, two fisted progressive direction? Does she want to go in a more pragmatic direction? Does she bring in some people that maybe aren't from the sort of activist world she's from, but have long standing City Hall understanding of the bureaucracy and that kind of thing. Now, outgoing mayor Bruce Harrell has said that he does want a very smooth transition. His chief of staff has actually met with the mayor elect and a few key players of her transition team that was today earlier to lay the foundation. And over the next few weeks, guys, we can expect policy operations. They're going to hand over some of this key issues that her administration is going to face so that she's ready for those first 100 days. Yeah. And as you know, she is the first elected socialist in modern history, right? And yesterday you were there, Ali. She was kind of talking about her policies and kind of the priorities that she wants. She talked about free summer care for kindergarten through eighth grade. She talked about social housing. There's a lot of things she wants. And the question is, how do you pay for that with a budget deficit coming? And that's why I think you know the question of the transition team is important, right? That you have experienced people around her. Yes. So these are going to be key players. But at the end of the day, Hannah, we want to look at the people who are not only going to be looking at her transition, but who are going to be key players in potentially her own administration. Who's going to be deputy mayor? Because right now her main goal, I mean, her window is very narrow to try and look at how the city is spending its money and then try to reallocated or figure out what her priorities are going to be. So these are the people that we're gonna have to keep a close eye on. And we are expecting more information at least next week. So it's interesting you mentioned Amy Barden because during the debate, Katie Wilson told me she does not like the way the cares program operates. She thinks they're just spreading people around. She wants to go to a different program where they have non profits that partner with the city. So it'll be interesting to see what Barden has to say about this going forward when the mayor elect mayor elect makes her decision. So we'll follow it. All right. Thank you. Thank you.
