Unitree showcased its G1 robot, capable of performing human-like combat skills such as punching and blocking, operated remotely to simulate competitive fighting. The company aims to enhance the robot's sports abilities and hardware reliability through ongoing demonstrations and events.

Another highlight was the SAI-R1, a robot designed to play Mahjong by making decisions based on incomplete information and unpredictable human moves. Developers noted the challenge of integrating Mahjong knowledge into the AI model and expect the bot's performance to become more human-like as its decision-making speed improves. The conference featured contributions from over 800 technology companies and entrepreneurs.

From jabs in the ring, to a seat at the mahjong table, some of China's latest advancements in robotics were on full display at the 2025 World Artificial Intelligence Conference in Shanghai. Weighing in at 77 pounds, this lightweight G1 robot can throw a punch and get back up. Developed by the Chinese robotics firm Unitree, the bot is remotely controlled by operators outside the ring. Various detection sensors on the bot allow it to perform a wide range of human-like combat skills, demonstrating its power, agility and strong balance. Unitree's marketing director Wang Xiaowei said the robots have learned a series of commands with their arms and legs, including blocking punches. At this stage, we operate the G1 robot by remote control, so in fact we want to let users experience the competitive sense of fighting between people. That's why we have it remote controlled by operators. In the future, our underlying logic is to improve the sports ability of the entire product through different events and different demonstrations of sports abilities, and then improve the reliability of our hardware. Elsewhere at the conference, a battle of a different kind is taking place. The SAI-R1 is a Mahjong-playing bot that can make decisions based on incomplete information on the table and unpredictable human actions. Chen Yanpei, co-founder of SAI-Bot, the makers of the bot, said figuring out how to involve the knowledge of Mahjong into the model was the most difficult aspect. He said that as the tech progresses and the time it takes for the bot to make a move decreases, it should feel closer to playing with a real human. This year's conference featured work from over 800 tech giants and entrepreneurs.
