From dishwashing liquids to surface sprays, scientists are warning many common household cleaning products contain chemicals that can interfere with the body's hormones, known as the endocrine system. Now some brands like Australian-based manufacturer Koh are offering customers a safer alternative when cleaning their home.

Scientists have raised concerns regarding the presence of hormone-disrupting chemicals in many common household cleaning products. Known as endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), these substances can interfere with the body's hormone production and action. Dr. Shana Swan, an expert in this field, highlights that EDCs can enter the body through ingestion, absorption, or inhalation, potentially causing issues ranging from fertility problems to weight gain, mood disorders, and an elevated cancer risk. 

In response to these findings, some companies are providing consumers with safer alternatives. Sydney-based manufacturer is dedicated to educating the public about toxic ingredients and offers EDC-free cleaning products. Their products are certified by Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) and Sensitive Choice, ensuring that they meet high environmental and health standards. According to Dr. Swan, selecting products with little to no scent might indicate fewer harmful chemicals. 

Kelly Fedor, a new mother, adjusted her household cleaning practices after discovering the prevalence of EDCs. Concerned about fertility, she turned to safer cleaning alternatives, which she believes have positively influenced both her own health and that of her 15-month-old daughter.
