However, perspectives on the incident and its aftermath varied significantly along party lines, with some calling for investigations and others questioning ICE's presence in cities.

Some Democratic lawmakers suggested using budgetary measures to limit ICE's operations, while at least one congresswoman announced plans to file articles of impeachment against Secretary Kristi Noem. Calls for calm and a thorough investigation were echoed by several officials as the situation continues to unfold.

CBS News Congressional Correspondent Nicole Killian joins us live on Capitol Hill for more on this. Nicole, it seems as though it's key to determine whether or not those ICE officials felt there was an imminent threat. But how are lawmakers reacting to the steep division on that event? Yeah, well, certainly there's a lot of shock on the part of lawmakers and there is a bipartisan agreement that this was indeed a tragedy. But certainly the way that video and the description of events as they unfolded are being perceived through different perspectives, depending on which side of the aisle you are talking to. Take a listen to how some lawmakers reacted just hours after the scene unfolded there in Minneapolis. Well, I saw the video. It just turns your stomach. We need a quick and full investigation to get to the bottom of this. You believe I should suspend their operations as the mayor has called for. Well, I've never been for ICE going into our cities, period. It doesn't belong there. This clearly appears to be the result of this just months long rhetoric against law enforcement and people encouraging that kind of violence. And so we call upon all the citizens of Minneapolis to be calm. We don't want anyone to be hurt. We need law enforcement to be able to do their jobs. Now, I did ask the speaker shortly after he made those initial remarks whether or not he believes that this was domestic terrorism. As Secretary Kristi Noem has described it, he said that he doesn't know and that he believes that the investigation should be allowed to play out. But again, there is a lot of concern on the part of many lawmakers, many Democrats in particular, that, you know, ICE has just simply gone too far here. And what we'll be watching for here on Capitol Hill is whether or not they try to use the power of the purse, if you will, to try to rein in ICE's budget in any way, because a lot of money has already been allocated to them. I would note that there is at least one lawmaker, Congresswoman Robin Kelly, who says that she plans to file articles of impeachment against Secretary Noem in light of this incident.
