A former Australian radio host, Michael Christian, has initiated legal proceedings against his former employer, Southern Cross Austereo, following a prank call made in 2012. The call, in which Christian and co-host Mel Gregg impersonated members of the British royal family to access information about Princess Catherine, resulted in the death of nurse Jacinta Saldana, who had transferred the call.

Christian alleges that he and Gregg were directed by their superiors to make the call and claims to have suffered severe mental health issues since the incident. His employment was terminated earlier this year, and he is now seeking compensation and damages. Legal experts suggest the time elapsed since the incident may complicate his case. Southern Cross Austereo has declined to comment, while Gregg has expressed hope for meaningful reforms in the industry.

The nurse who transferred, called Jacinta Saldana, took her life days later. Jacinta was recently the victim of a hoax call to the hospital. Michael Christian and Mel Gregg made global headlines. Personally, I'm... I've got it. There's not a minute that goes by that we don't think about her family and what they must be going through. Thirteen years later, Mr Christian now alleges the hoax was one he and Ms Gregg were made to do by their bosses at Southern Cross Austerio, and he says he's suffered severe mental health issues ever since. His employment was terminated in February this year, and he's now seeking penalties, compensation for economic loss and damages. Because of the amount of time that has passed, experts believe that may be difficult to achieve. The challenge in this case is trying to convince a court that something in 2013 was the substantive inoperative reason for things that happened much later. Southern Cross Austerio declined to comment, but Mr Christian's former co-host Mel Gregg said she hopes the continued attention on this tragic incident results in substantial reforms.
