Far North Queensland is experiencing unprecedented flooding, with the town of Ingham completely submerged, impacting State Emergency Service's attempts at rescue. A bridge on the Bruce Highway has collapsed after the ground below it eroded.

Street after street in Queensland has been severely flooded due to an ongoing severe weather event, marking the worst flooding the region has seen in 100 years. The town of Ingham is completely underwater with road signs submerged and homes turned into isolated islands. Locals have resorted to waving at each other from their patios for reassurance. The SES has been conducting rescue operations throughout the affected areas.

Particular areas are experiencing critical infrastructure challenges, with Ingham left without power as its substation and part of the Bruce Highway have been overwhelmed by water. The collapse of a bridge on the highway has severely impacted regional Queensland, leaving citizens reliant on just one accessible road. In the suburb of Red Lynch in Cairns, distant from Townsville where flooding is most severe, streets and backyards continue to deal with floodwaters.

Despite the persistent rain, there have been emergency alerts in place, such as in Charters Towers, where rescues were carried out due to motorists becoming trapped. Residents have been warned to stay off the roads as both water and power services have been affected across various areas. Authorities anticipate additional rain in the near days, potentially exacerbating the conditions and resulting in further community isolation and rescue requirements.

Wave to each other on the patio to check that we're all okay. The SES comes through every now and I think they've done a few rescues a bit further down the street that way. Dwayne Hobson has been flooded in for days. More than a metre of rain has swallowed his yard and his town. We've got the steps here, we're at six and a half steps until it comes to the deck or we go from a neighbour. So it's been sitting at about six or seven steps for about the last 24 hours. People here are used to heavy rain and lots of water but this event is different, the worst flooding in 100 years. We've got inundation of essentially the shops from here down. Last night the water ripped through Cardwell. Look at it! There were close calls and north of the city, Bluewater lived up to its name. Yeah the river met the road and it pretty much just came through the house. A bit overwhelmed, yeah, don't know where to start. Bluewater Creek is still racing but it's nothing compared to what it was. Right now it's sitting at around four metres high but yesterday afternoon it doubled to 8.2. And to give you a bit of an indication of just how far the water moved, Lisa's property, it's 300 metres that way. Critical infrastructure across the north is suffering. Ingham has been without power, the substation is among the properties that have been inundated and part of the Bruce Highway has collapsed. A catastrophic failure of a bridge, the ground eroded late yesterday, the rest crumbled in the night. All of regional Queensland is at the mercy of one road. The images from Olara Creek show the vulnerability of regional Queenslanders. That road must be repaired. In the Cairns suburb of Red Lynch, more than 300 kilometres away from the unfolding flooding disaster in Townsville, the system that's causing the almighty mess is still packing a punch. Flooding streets and people's backyards. While further inland, an emergency alert has been issued for Charters Towers. Where we had a number of rescues last evening with motorists trapped in their vehicles. So please, if you don't need to be on the road, please don't enter the road. Water and power there has also been affected. I expect it will see more rain over the coming days as that weather contracts and extends towards the west.
