Emergency crews met the aircraft on the tarmac, and passengers were quickly evacuated from the plane.

Qantas confirmed that the pilots followed standard procedures and alerted authorities as a precaution. Preliminary investigations found no evidence of fire in the cargo area. Passengers praised the crew's handling of the situation, and all were able to continue their journeys safely.

Missing the rugby and not seeing my wife was probably my biggest fears, yes. Troy Balzan was among approximately 160 passengers flying from Sydney. The emergency was triggered around 11am. Oh when they did say something over the radio there bro, it was a bit f***ing scary, I went lighter. On the tarmac, the plane was met with emergency trucks, passengers whisked off but quickly on their way. As soon as the plane landed, you look to your left, there's a f***ing fire truck, you look to your right, there's a fire truck, like everywhere, yeah. There was a lot of fire engines, they were, and they all had their lights on and they were all steaming towards the plane. Looking out the window, you could see it was pretty serious. Qantas has confirmed the pilots were receiving intermittent indication about potential fire in the cargo hold. The pilots followed standard procedures and notified authorities through a Mayday call. Preliminary investigations report that there was no fire in the front cargo hold. Passengers say the flying kangaroo handled the pressure well. They're hoping our wallabies will too. I think it is a bit of a gnome and I think we might win this one and it'll be a very good trip home. Paris Martin, 10 News.
