Prince Harry, on Wednesday, lost his legal challenge against the British government's decision to take away his police protection when he is in the U.K. Harry had received fully publicly funded security protection provided by the state, but the Home Office decided to cease his personal police security when he stepped back from his royal duties and moved to California with his American wife, Meghan, in March 2020. Harry, King Charles' younger son, had brought the case against the government and was granted permission for a judicial review of the Home Office's decision. His lawyers told a hearing in December that the decision subjected him to unlawful, unfair and unjustifiable treatment. But the government's legal team said the change in protection is a result from Harry's change of status to a non-working royal. The team added that Harry would be treated in a bespoke manner and occasionally be included within the cohort of individuals receiving publicly funded protection. The High Court agreed, concluding that there had been no unlawfulness in the decision.
