Prime Minister Anthony Albanese  will fly to China with the business delegation in tow, to try and firm up trade with Australia's biggest partner. The trip comes amid ongoing debates about global tariffs and scrutiny from the opposition regarding the PM's diplomatic engagements.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is on his second visit to China, aiming to deepen trade relations following the recent removal of tariffs on Australian wine exports, which led to a significant increase in sales for producers like Chateau Tanunda. China remains Australia's largest trading partner, accounting for about a quarter of Australian exports and jobs linked to trade.

During the visit, Albanese is accompanied by business lobby groups for face-to-face roundtable discussions, seeking to secure further business opportunities. The trip also comes amid ongoing debates about global tariffs and scrutiny from the opposition regarding the Prime Minister's diplomatic engagements, including a recent meeting between Ambassador Kevin Rudd and former US President Trump.

We have worked hard on the relationship with China, agreeing and cooperating where we can, disagreeing where we must. Discussions on security likely to be a little frostier during the six day trip. We want a stable relationship with China. We know there are areas where we can cooperate and we will. We know there are areas where we will disagree. The opposition continues to question the stability of the PM's relationship with President Trump, claiming Ambassador Kevin Rudd was holding secret meetings that Anthony Albanese had failed to secure. They provided three sentences of information just confirming that the meeting took place and that it was at Trump's golf course. I don't understand why there's such secrecy around this. The Prime Minister quick to put Senator Paterson back in his lane, saying it was a brief discussion, but certainly no secret and nothing out of the ordinary. James Paterson needs to pay more attention. I'd spoken publicly about this at the time. The trip to China should prove a chance to win some political, diplomatic points for the government at a time when global tariffs are being debated in negotiations with the Trump administration.
