We're standing in front of a memorial for those who've passed away and for those who remain missing. Well, this is day nine of the search. While hope does fade to find those alive, this whole country has rallied around this community in support. There's been a steady stream of tears and hugs at this memorial wall in downtown Kerrville. But amid the devastation, there are also stories of hope and heroism. There was one little girl, I don't remember her name, but she was asking me if she could bring her stuffed animal if there was space in the helicopter and the obvious answer was yes. U.S. Coast Guard rescue swimmer Scott Ruskin saved 165 people, working with his crew to airlift girls out of Camp Mystic. This happened to be the first mission of his career. Rely on the training, rely on the crew, and just know that we're trained as well as we can be. It's now day nine of the search for the 170 missing across Texas. More than 2,000 responders are on the ground from around the country and Mexico, using helicopters, boats, drones, ATVs, canines, mules, every resource at their disposal. Texas Governor Greg Abbott says they will not stop until they find every missing person. While meeting with first responders Friday, President Trump was asked about the flood-prone area's readiness, including questions about its early warning siren system. You probably come up with something very unique because there is no system right now. State leaders tell us they're committed to looking into warning sirens, and Governor Abbott says the state will be prepared when the next disaster hits. Are you confident that if a disaster would happen here again tomorrow that they would be prepared? I'm confident that we are going to put together in a session beginning in 10 days the abilities to ensure better preparation, better alerts, so that people will not be surprised like they were this time. The hill country terrain and sporadic rain have made the search harder for rescuers, but their resolve remains strong to reunite families. I just hope that anybody else that is lost or is still out there is found and returned to their family. Now tonight there will be more vigils in Kerrville, and in the meantime in the week we've been here we've seen this community come together stronger despite this tragedy.
