Every day for the last month, Shaima has visited her premature daughter. Suffering from intestinal lesions, she's being kept under observation. While Shaima is relieved to have left Gaza with her baby, she's still worried. My daughter was born in the midst of war. I gave birth at Shifa Hospital and the doctors took her away. I saw her again after 38 days. I'm happy, but I can't touch her. And her father isn't here, nor is the rest of the family. In this hospital in the new Egyptian administrative capital, 24 premature babies born in Gaza have been treated and given a chance at life. These children were born too sick to be looked after in hospitals in Gaza. They were not normal conditions. These mothers sleep at the hospital. This woman's twins are now out of danger, and today she's considering her future. I would almost be ready to go back to Gaza with my daughters to reunite with my husband. But at the same time I'm afraid. The situation isn't stable and there are bombings 24 hours a day. I'm hesitant, but at the same time I can't stay here alone. These babies born amidst the bombs are currently safe, but no one knows if they will ever see the Gaza Strip again.
