The incident occurred when a dark-colored vehicle approached three teens, exchanged words, and then opened fire, resulting in one fatality and one injury. Both victims were stepbrothers.

Authorities are actively investigating the case, utilizing all available resources and technology to identify the suspects. Police are appealing to the public for information and have provided contact details for tips. The investigation remains ongoing, and police emphasize their commitment to finding those responsible.

We're here to report some news that no one wants to hear. This community is outraged. We are tired of this youth violence and again, we are here today where 13 year old was fatally shot here in our community. This happened just after 9pm in the area of East Lance in England. There were three group of sorry, three juveniles, three teens that were out walking from that a dark colored vehicle, pulled up on them, rode the window down, words were exchanged and then shots rang out from that vehicle, fatally striking one 13 year old and the other also 13 year old sustained a non life threatening firearm injury or gunshot wound to the arm. This is not okay. This is not acceptable. We will not tolerate it. Detroit Police Medicine has been unapologetic about what we will do to protect our youth here in this community. Detroit Police Department has been activated, our homicide task force, every bit of technology that we have, we are scurrying and looking through in this area, querying it just to make sure that we do every single thing we can to find the people responsible for hurting our children here in this community. What I've shared with you is all that we have at this time. This investigation is wide open. This family will never be the same. They were stepbrothers, both that sustained the injuries today, the fatal injury, as well as the non-life-threatening injury. So this family, as a parent myself of a 13-year-old, certainly our hearts go out to them. The Detroit Police Department, our city, our hearts go out to this family. We need someone to help us. Obviously, there's been multiple situations recently where children have been injured by gunfire. What do you all think needs to happen? You can't rest your way out of it. As recent, as earlier today, there was a call to action in Spirit Plaza here in Detroit, a power hour of prayer, where clergy stepped up to do their part. Our schools were there. Again, we're working with the courts. We changed earlier this week a council. We worked to change the parental advisory ordinance, not to punish, not to be punitive, but to make sure that we give parents the tools that they need to help their children be productive citizens, whether it be areas to help with conflict resolution. The list can go on and on of what we're doing to make sure parents have every tool to be successful, but again, what we saw today, whoever's responsible for this, we do not stand for this. We do not tolerate this. We will not rest until we find the individuals responsible that did this. Do you believe that the victims knew the shooter or was he sprained up? It's early. We don't know. But again, regardless if they knew them or not, gunfire to result to a firearm to address any issue, whether it was a beef and it's not okay. But we are once the individual or the victim that's at the hospital is recovering from surgery or from treatment, our investigators will begin interviewing them as well as canvassing the area. And certainly the information that we're confident that this community or someone who knows what happened will share with us, we will put the pieces of this puzzle together and find the individuals responsible.
