Dutton has emphasized his humble beginnings as a butcher's boy, highlighting his financial accomplishments as a result of hard work and aspiration.

He disclosed having a property portfolio that has generated significant profit over the years. According to Dutton, he and his father initially started a building company from scratch, acquiring and selling blocks of land. Currently, Dutton owns one property and a family trust has been established for his wife and children, although he claims not to benefit from it. Allegations regarding his disclosure documents have surfaced, but Dutton asserts that any delay in paperwork submission is inconsequential.

The Prime Minister has refrained from commenting on Dutton's financial matters, noting it as an issue for Dutton to address. Meanwhile, Labor has been urging scrutiny over the opposition leader's financial integrity, but Dutton argues that it is permissible for individuals to earn money through legitimate means. Dutton remains confident in his financial dealings and asserts compliance with rules relevant to his position.

If the Prime Minister is against aspiration and hard work and achievement he should say so. The opposition leader has fronted the cameras a day on from Labor raising questions about the timing of him buying bank shares in 2009 during the global financial crisis. He advised of the purchases on the eve of a Rudd government bailout. I think a lot of astute investors would have been buying bank shares at that time. He insists he wasn't privy to sensitive information as a shadow minister and is leaving it at that. I'm not going back into ancient history. The history of his property portfolio over 35 years has also been publicised reportedly garnering more than six million dollars in profits. My father and I started with nothing in a small building company and half the transactions that are on that list of blocks of land that we bought where dad built a house and we sold. He says he's now the owner of one property and there's also a Dutton family trust for his wife and children. I'm not a beneficiary of the trust and there is no, to be frank, there is no asset in the trust. The opposition leader also dismissed concerns raised around disclosures. There are some where the paperwork hasn't been got in on time but there's nothing consequential in that. Is it of consequence to the Prime Minister who copped a lot of flack over the purchase of a 4.3 million dollar home last year? I make no comment about Peter Dutton's matters, that's a matter for him. But it is a matter for his ministers. I think voters do expect that someone who's going to be the Prime Minister of this country complies with the rules. I guess when you own as many homes and a shopping mall and chances are you you're a bit tardy with your paperwork. Labor has been pushing hard trying to question Peter Dutton's integrity but political point-scoring is one thing, whether it cuts through with voters is another. Everyone's allowed to make some money. I have no issue with it. And that's in a marginal Labor held seat. Ashley Raper for 10 News First.
