Thousands of federal employees have returned to work after the government reopened, ending a record-breaking shutdown. While most are relieved to be back, many are still awaiting both regular paychecks and back pay for the period they were unpaid.

The Office of Personnel Management has announced that payments, including 'super checks' covering missed pay from October 1st to November 1st, will be distributed between Saturday the 15th and Wednesday the 19th. Essential workers such as TSA agents will also receive a $10,000 bonus, and officials have confirmed protections for all federal employees, including job restoration and guaranteed back pay.

And Fitz, you talked to the Feds today. Getting back to normal may not be quick. Kenneth, you're sure right about that. Keep in mind, there are nearly half a million federal employees spread out throughout the DMV region. And whether we're talking about furloughed workers who had to stay home during that shutdown or essential workers who actually had to go into work despite not being paid. A lot of them all have the same question tonight. Where's the money? Well, there were some signs of a return to normalcy today in the district, starting with the Smithsonian Museum like air and space. A couple of those Smithsonian's are going to open their doors tomorrow morning. Now, most federal workers started receiving notices last night that they're either going to have to return to work tomorrow on Friday or Monday. But remember, there is a federal law in the books from back in 2019 that furloughed workers are entitled to back pay as, quote, soon as possible. But for the bottom line, a lot of the Feds, Fox 5 talked to today said they're just glad the shutdown's over and they're back to work. I'm happy to be doing that again, taking a quick lunch break walk, but otherwise at the desk and plowing through the work today. Looking forward to getting that paycheck. Sure, you got to get your back pay. I am concerned about it for sure. Now, some essential workers like TSA agents who are on the job manning those security lines at the airport, they found out today a lot of them are going to get a $10,000 bonus that was announced by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem today. Now, you remember the president hinted about that a couple of days ago. At one point, he also hinted that maybe furloughed workers weren't all going to get back pay. Senator Tim Kaine of Virginia has told Fox 5, though, that a guarantee of back pay, that was one of the crucial reasons why he decided to change his vote and support reopening the government. I'm going to be handing bonus checks to every single one of these individuals served with exemplary service, which means they were an example. We have gotten these protections for federal employees, restoration to your job, back pay, and no rifts going forward. With those three points established. All right, so where's the money? Well, the Office of Personnel Management is telling Fox 5 tonight that they planned out calling out and sending out what they are calling super checks. This is going to cover the pay period between October 1st and November 1st. Now, that will depend on when you get it on a schedule. Now, this will start on Saturday the 15th.
