Radio-Canada sources have confirmed the victim of a daylight shooting at a Starbucks in a busy strip mall in Laval, Quebec, was Charalambos Theologou, also known as Bobby the Greek. Two others injured in the shooting were members of his gang, the Chomedey Greeks.

A shooting outside a Starbucks in Laval, Quebec, has resulted in the death of Haralambos Theologou, also known as Bobby the Greek, and left two others seriously injured. According to sources, Theologou was the leader of a gang known as the Greeks of Chamidi, which is reportedly involved in extortion activities in the area.

Provincial police have taken over the investigation and established a security perimeter at the scene. Quebec's public security minister expressed relief that no bystanders were harmed, but voiced concern about organized crime violence in busy public spaces. Local officials and police are expected to provide further updates as the investigation continues.

More now on our top story this hour, the breaking news out of Quebec. One person is dead and two people are seriously injured after a shooting near a Starbucks in Laval. The CBC's Sarah Levitt is there and joins us live. So Sarah, what can you tell us? Well, Andrew, provincial police just gave a little bit of update because they're taking over the investigation but they didn't give a lot of details as they do this investigation. I'm just going to show you where this happened and we hear from police that a 911 call came in at around 10.30 this morning and this is a busy stretch in Laval where people come to obviously get gas or something to eat and provincial police saying this happened outside the sushi shop and the Starbucks that you're probably seeing right now. Now, lots of police on the scene. There's a big security perimeter in place to ensure the integrity of the scene. Meanwhile, we do have some details from sources that tell Radio-Canada that this was indeed a organized crime hit. That person in particular, somebody named Haralambos Theologou or Bobby the Greek was specifically targeted and he was killed alongside two members of the gang. Now, Radio-Canada reporting that this gang is called known as the Greeks of Chamidi. That's an area in Laval and they're known for extortion. Bobby the Greek, the man who we know from Radio-Canada was killed here this morning was the leader of this gang. The two others, as you said, seriously injured. And Sarah, I understand we're getting some reaction from Quebec's public security minister. Tell us about that. Yeah, Yann Lafreniere in Quebec City at the National Assembly reacting to this news saying, of course, that he is happy or glad to hear that no innocent bystanders were affected by this shooting, but that it shouldn't happen in a busy spot where people could possibly have been injured and worries about organized crime in Laval. Now, Yann Lafreniere himself, a former Montreal police officer, now public security in Quebec City, said there has been a lot of pressure lately from police on organized crime, but that something like this should never happen. A nearby M&A, a local M&A, he lives right nearby. This or his riding, I should say, is right bordering this one, says he frequently stops here for coffee and so lots of concern there. We should be hearing soon from the mayor of Laval as well as the Laval police, but right now it is provincial police who have taken over this investigation. Sarah, thank you.
