Russian forces launched 54 Iranian-made Shahid drones targeting various Ukrainian cities, with Ukrainian air forces intercepting 33 of them. However, 21 drones struck eight different locations, leading to the death of a 21-year-old man in Pokrovsk, Donetsk region, and injuries to eight others in different areas including Chernihiv and Zaporizhia.

The attacks are part of Russia's ongoing efforts to intensify its assault on the Donbass region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that over 1,500 drones and 1,280 guided aerial bombs were fired by Russia in one week, and called on international allies to increase pressure on Moscow to encourage negotiations for peace.

It comes as Russia continues to intensify its assault on the Donbass in a bid to deepen their foothold in the eastern region. Chernihiv was also targeted in the overnight raid. Officials say two consecutive attacks struck the region, damaging critical infrastructure and injuring one person. Three people were also injured in Zaporizhia in the early hours of Sunday. Ukraine's President Volodymyr Zelensky in a post on X noted that Russia had fired over 1,500 drones and 1,280 guided aerial bombs in the space of one week. He called on allies to ramp up pressure on Moscow to force them to the negotiating table and restore peace to Ukraine.

The President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, will address the UN on Monday, after the General Assembly voted to allow him to join remotely. The U.S. has refused to issue him a visa to attend in person.
