Protests have taken place outside 26 Federal Plaza in New York City, where demonstrators are opposing the detention of immigrants by ICE, particularly those arrested during routine court appearances. Several protesters were arrested after confrontations with police, and additional arrests occurred following a protest at Trump Tower.

Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tish have expressed support for peaceful protests but issued strong warnings against violence, property damage, and obstruction. They referenced recent violent protests in Los Angeles, stating that such actions would not be tolerated in New York, and emphasized that any attacks on law enforcement would be met with a decisive response.

Well, demonstrators have been protesting out here for hours now outside 26 Federal Plaza. The reason they are here, this is one of those locations where immigrants who have been arrested by ICE are being detained. Go ahead, take a look at the video here right now. First of all, multiple protesters were arrested here after clashing with police. The protesters blasting ICE and the Trump administration for arresting immigrants when they show up for their scheduled, routine court appearances. Now Mayor Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tish earlier today saying that they support peaceful protests, but if anybody is thinking about turning violent like the protests in Los Angeles, think again, it will not be tolerated here. The escalation of protests in Los Angeles over the last couple of days is unacceptable and would not be tolerated if attempted in our city. Let me be crystal clear. We have no tolerance for violence, none. We have no tolerance for property damage. We have no tolerance for people blocking entrances to buildings or blocking driveways or blocking cars from moving. And any attacks against law enforcement will be met with a swift and decisive response from the NYPD. We are responsible for public safety and maintaining order in this city. And by the way, the protesters who stormed and took over the lobby at Trump Tower earlier tonight, 24 of them were arrested at that location. Back inside to you.
