They're fighting to put automatic stop arm cameras on school buses so drivers who illegally pass the buses are nabbed. First ticket, $250. This month, the Woodbridge Township School District released shocking data that found nearly 3,000 drivers blew past stop signs as students got off and got on the bus. Today in West Orange, advocates got together to share their stories of children injured by reckless driving as they tried to get on the school bus. A driver illegally passed a stop school bus and struck her while her mother was watching to make sure that her daughter got on the school bus safely. Floor had no pulse when the first responders arrived. She was rushed to the hospital and the doctors performed emergency surgery. No parent should ever have to witness that and no child should ever have to pay the price for a driver's impatience or carelessness. When Woodbridge Township did the pilot and I saw the results, I was astounded. Over 2,800 violations. There's obviously people will talk about this should be done, you know, there's laws already. They're not working. When they're not working, us as legislators want to change things to make it work. This will make it work. This new legislation will make it work. This isn't a money grab. This is safety for our children, period. And it's to educate. Now more than 32 states in the country have this kind of technology and they say it works more than 90% of the time. First offenders never do it again once they are held accountable the first time. Steve. It seems like they learned their lesson. All right. Makes sense to me.
