The National Hurricane Center is still keeping a close eye on Tropical Storm Dexter and two areas to watch in the Atlantic Ocean. Dexter is moving away from the U.S. but is still producing a threat for rip currents along the mid-Atlantic beaches.

The National Hurricane Center continues to monitor Tropical Storm Dexter, which has remained at a 40% chance of development. High wind shear is currently limiting the storm's intensification and keeping it offshore. Forecast models suggest that Dexter is moving further away from the United States, lessening the threat of heavy rainfall and flooding along the coast.

While marine interests should remain alert due to windy conditions, the risk to coastal communities, including the Outer Banks, has decreased. Rainfall projections have also diminished, and the system is expected to intensify only after moving well away from land.

All right, so sheer high side, that's what's keeping Dexter at bay. Here's our low level spin right here. So I want you to watch this. Remember, we've got a front still in this area. So watch this kind of get tangled up with this front. But you know what? It's almost like it gives it a little shot, little shot. And look at how far out it is. All right, so we've gone from a horrible weekend and what could have been even flooding to now something that's farther out and probably will intensify once it gets well enough away from the United States. So it'll kind of follow Dexter's path, if you will. Also notice there's nothing down here in terms of the probabilities. Let me use a different color so you can see. Nothing down here. It's all out here. It's all off to the east. So this really is kind of, with the exception of the marine issues, could be a non-event. Notice the rainfall has come down considerably. This could be with the old front. This is going through Sunday. This may have nothing to do with the tropical system and it likely doesn't. So much better news for the Outer Banks. As we were looking at even a potential tropical storm yesterday, this morning we are not. We are looking at things heading to the east. Now, of course, things could switch back. But I think once the models kind of get an idea of something and they start agreeing on it, I think the probabilities of believing it go up. Windy conditions, marine interest, that'll always be something to watch, especially with a tropical system and even a front very close to shore.
