It's that time of year when the streets of New York City turn into a runway. Fashion Week officially begins today here in the Big Apple, and the top designers and brands are getting ready to showcase their fall and winter collections. Coach, Tory Burch, Christian Suriano are among dozens of brands that will be featured this week. Legendary designer Marc Jacobs unofficially kicked off the annual event on Monday to present his latest runway 2026 designs. For more, let's bring in CBS News contributor Lauren Sherman. She's also a fashion correspondent at Puck. So what fall and winter trends are you starting to see? Definitely all coats. I mean, that's kind of a big thing, but big shoulders, a lot of color, a lot of red. We're seeing some light green has been big on the runways lately. It's fun. Like, you know, anything goes now with in the era of TikTok, you can wear whatever you want, but it is still fun to see what's on the runway. It's always interesting to see what colors are popping in certain seasons. What's different about this fashion week in this economy? I'd say that the big thing is that for the last 15 years, luxury goods have just been selling like crazy and suddenly consumers are pulling back. They're being more discerning about what they're buying and they're still spending money, especially at the high end. But I'd say they want more value for what they're getting. So Coach showed their collection today. Coach is killing it. The stock is killing it. Everybody wants a Coach Tabby bag. They want a Coach Brooklyn tote. And so you get a lot of value from what sets them apart. Well, the price, so you can buy a bag for under a thousand dollars. A lot of these luxury goods, the bags start at $3,500 and, you know, many people were stretching to be able to do that. But I think so much has changed in the world and they just want to know that whatever they're buying, it's worth the money. Last month, you wrote an article for Puck outlining your six fashion predictions for 2026. Go through them. Well, one of them definitely is that Demna, the new designer at Gucci, is going to do really well. I think it's going to be a huge success and it's going to help the parent company of Gucci Caring. Their stock is already up, given the confidence around this debut collection. But I think it's going to be really interesting later on this month. Another thing is, I think we're going to see a return to shopping in stores. There are too many stores. Saks Global just went bankrupt. They are restructuring under Chapter 11. But I think we're going to see the opening of some new independent boutiques where there's really fun fashion, other things going on. There were tons of designer debuts last season. One of the designers, Dario Vitale at Versace, already got fired for reasons we don't need to get into here. I expect that one of those debuts of the 13, 14 that happened last season, one of the designers will get the boot. And what else is going on? What is it about the current climate and what consumers want that makes you think that there could be a resurgence of the in-store experience? I think that people are buying fewer things, but they want to enjoy the experience and they want something special that delights them. So do I think they're going to be going once a week like they used to? Absolutely not. But they will take the time to go somewhere that is fun. Everything is about experience now. So if you can make the in-store experience entertaining, someone will make the effort every couple of months to go in. So it's going to be really important that these retailers make sure that they're doing something that people like. Lauren Sherman, thanks so much.
