New York Fashion Week is underway, presenting designs for the 2026 fall and winter seasons. The event officially runs through February 16, with early shows from Ralph Lauren and Marc Jacobs. Fashion Bomb Daily editor-in-chief Claire Sulmers discussed the biannual event, which moves from New York to London, Milan, and Paris.

Sulmers highlighted designers such as Sergio Hudson and Christian Siriano, and noted the increasing presence of reality TV stars and influencers at shows. She also described current fashion trends, including monochromatic looks, maximalism, textured fabrics, and oversized silhouettes, as well as the return of 1990s-inspired styles.

New York fashion week is already underway in the backdrop of cold winter weather, some of the fashion industry's top taste makers are debuting their designs for the 2026 fall and winter seasons fashion week officially runs through February 16th, but Ralph Lauren and Mark Jacobs kicked things off earlier this week. So let's bring in editor in chief and founder of fashion bomb daily Claire Southerners welcome Claire, thank you so I thank you so much for having me so first like to bring people in on the conversation we were having during the break. Fashion week was in the fall, but it happens twice a year. And it's it's the most wonderful time of year. But it happens in February and September and it goes from New York to London to Milan and Paris, I didn't even know that they were all in succession like that okay, so yeah, what shows and designers are you most looking forward to this year. Okay, so my favorite is Sergio Hudson who I'm actually wearing today. Thank you and and Sergio Hudson, he's celebrating 10 years this year so it will be a very big show also Christian Siriano who a lot of people are familiar with from project runway. Christian Cowan Kim shui I could go on and on and on with all that all the shows that I'm excited to see. So I mean when you think about these runways and the shows that these designers are putting on I mean what kind of familiar faces are we expecting to see on the runways. I mean lots of Housewives. In the audience. So let me ask you this is my hot take do you think that that because celebrity has changed in the last like changed a lot a lot right, it's like we now have gone from you know Leo and you know George and Julia to the Housewives to the Housewives to a laundry from love Island. I was like that her side is on fire right now she is that I think a lot yeah from love Island ever watch and so it's all about influencers and reality and are they there because because they are actually buying these clothes are because it's a scene and maybe the fashion houses have invited them and they can influence people to it's it's about influencing consumers to follow these different brands to to patronize these different brands hopefully it is a very interesting time economically in our country and so I think that brands are trying to just expand the marketing so that they can drive sales, what trends are you saying. Well monochromatic always. I like you. And you're wearing my favorite color which is like what Tiffany blue you would call it Robin's egg blue. Yeah, it's a Robin's egg a little Seattle. But you know textures friends kind of maximalism as well, there's so doing the oversized thing right like I could I still have one a pair of skinny jeans okay, so I hold on to that I never give it up. Trends come around again so because I had this conversation with my colleague, a person who is a fashion beast. I was saying that like I don't think I can wear you know how like the 90's are coming back from an big boxy suits with a lot of space in between them. Big baggy pants like in like I can't do that you can do anything you put your mind to and if it doesn't work for you you'll always live to dress and see another day to slay any time haha yeah, I love it Claire somers thank you very much appreciate you for having me.
