Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace held her first town hall since announcing her candidacy for governor of South Carolina, emphasizing her strong support for former President Donald Trump. Mace described herself as 'Trump in high heels' and pledged to overhaul state government, aligning herself closely with Trump's policies and leadership style. 

During the event, Mace addressed conservative issues, including transgender legislation, and defended Trump against allegations made by media figures. She also highlighted her early fundraising success since entering the race. The discussion also covered other Republican lawmakers entering gubernatorial races and North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper's decision to run for Senate.

Yesterday in Myrtle Beach, she didn't shy away from her support for President Trump. I want to take what's broken in South Carolina and I want to burn it down to the ground and build it right back up right where it needs to be. I am Trump in high heels. I love what I am doing. I'm following his lead because he set a good example and no one will work harder for South Carolina than I will. And for more on this, I'm joined by CBS News congressional reporter, Torian Small. Torian, always good to see you. So what can you tell us about what else Nancy Mace said? What message did she have for supporters? Yeah, Michael, this is the first public forum for the South Carolina Congresswoman since throwing her hat in the gubernatorial race there. She really bled into those culture war issues, talking about transgender bills that she brought to the Hill and that she would be willing to sign into law if governor. This was a lot of red meat because a lot of the folks in the room were those hard right conservatives who have given her so much support. This is also a reason why she held her first town hall of sorts in a ruby red district that she is very familiar with. She talked about her ongoing and unwavering support for the president, and even at one point when prompted on it, defended President Trump from allegations of being a rapist, saying that, in her words, she stuck it to the ABC anchor George Stephanopoulos for calling Trump a rapist. And she said she absolutely disavows this as a survivor of rape. Ultimately, though, this was her first foray into the governor's race, and she touted the fact that she brought in quite a bit of fundraising in just 10 days of announcing her run. Now, Torian, can you tell us about the other Republican lawmakers running for governor? Yeah, we saw this week Marsha Blackburn announced that she would be stepping into her state's gubernatorial race there. This comes just months after Senator Tommy Tuberville announced that he'll be running for governor in Alabama. This clears the way for new faces to come to the Senate there, but ultimately we're seeing this push, shifting in the ranks in terms of Republican leadership and in the ranks in the Senate chamber there to seek higher office. And we're also seeing a governor go the opposite direction and run for Senate. What can you tell us about Roy Cooper? Yeah, this is a governor who happened to be in a quite purple state. He's a pretty popular Democrat in North Carolina. He decided to jump in the race after being term limited. He was ultimately succeeded by a Democrat in the most recent election and decided that he'll be jumping in this race after there were rumors floating that the RNC chairman, Michael Watley, would be also seeking this now open or soon to be open position. Again, Roy Cooper has won his election as governor two times in his respective state. It is a battleground that we saw targeted by both presidential candidates in the last election, so this will be a hotly contested race that we're keeping an eye on. All right.
