The area surrounding Mount Vernon Avenue has been closed to traffic, and Metro North service through nearby stations has been temporarily suspended as a precaution. Police continue to search for suspects, and residents are advised to avoid the affected area. Officials are urging anyone with information to contact the Mount Vernon Police detective division.

Mount Vernon gas station robbery sparks massive police response

to that developing story out of Mount Vernon this morning, police rushed to a gas station in one section of that city. Let's get right to News 12 Katerina Balalas, who is on the scene with the very latest cat. That's that's right. Well, multiple police departments are currently on scene here in the area of Mount Vernon Avenue after there was an attempted robbery at this gas station right here. This gulf gas station. If you take a look down, you can see the road is closed off Mount Vernon. Police are blocking it off to drivers as they continue to investigate. I want to go to video from earlier this morning right now, where you can see more more police investigating at the specific station. In particular, there is yellow caution tape there because people can't really go in and out. We had people residents that came up to us and said they usually get their morning coffee at this gas station, but they couldn't because it was locked at the time. So the mayor of Mount Vernon says Mount Vernon County Police, the N. Y. P. D. And the M. T. A. Police departments are all investigating reports that shots may have been fired during this incident. No injuries have been confirmed at this time, but as you can see, police did secure the immediate area and they're actively searching for the suspects. Now this is a large contained area from Mount Vernon Avenue and Scott's Bridge all the way down to the Mount Vernon line near Bronx River Road to First Street in the Bronx. So out of an abundance of caution, city officials say Mount Metro North Service through Mount Vernon West and Mount Vernon East stations has been temporarily suspended to New York City. Residents should also avoid the area south and west of Mount Vernon Avenue and Lincoln Avenue.
