A Mounds View High School English teacher, Ted Bennett, has resigned following charges of sex crimes involving a 16-year-old student. The school board accepted his resignation, and Bennett appeared in court where his bond was set at $75,000 and he was ordered to stay away from the victim.

Investigators allege that Bennett, who had worked for the district since 1999, provided the student with narcotics and alcohol, with some encounters occurring during the school day. Authorities believe there may be additional victims and have set up a hotline for others to come forward.

Our top story tonight, the Moundsview English teacher charged with sex crimes involving a 16 year old student has now resigned. Within the last couple hours, the school board accepted his resignation. Fox 9's Mike Manzoni is live in Shoreview Forest tonight. And Mike, the now former teacher, also faced a judge today. And, Randy and Kelsey, that judge set his bond at $75,000 and ordered him to stay away from the victim in this case. This 58 year old, Ted Bennett, faces several charges after investigators say he had multiple sexual encounters with his 16 year old student. The investigation started Monday when police went to Moundsview High School to look into reports of an inappropriate relationship between Bennett and the girl. Investigators say Bennett gave the girl narcotics as well as alcohol. According to court documents, some of the encounters happened at school during the school day. Bennett worked for the district for more than 25 years. He started in 1999. And a spokesman told us tonight that Bennett did not have any previous issues. Investigators say they do believe that there are other victims in this case and they've set up a hotline for them to come forward. We do have that number for you on our website, fox9.com.
