Many people are facing food shortages and lack of government assistance, while rescue teams work to relocate those affected and provide access to essential services.

The situation is compounded by the melting of glaciers in northern Pakistan, increasing the risk of further flooding. Experts and officials highlight that despite Pakistan's minimal contribution to global emissions, it remains highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, including floods, heatwaves, and droughts. Calls have been made for improved urban planning and restoration of natural floodplains to mitigate future disasters.

With their crops already underwater, these people are moving their livestock to higher ground. Heavy rains have flooded the Taunsar district in southern Punjab. People living close to swollen rivers are the most vulnerable. Floodwaters have surrounded us from all sides. Our crops are completely submerged and our houses, which are made of mud, are collapsing. We're now facing starvation. There's no food available and no help from the government. We're also worried about our livestock, which is dying due to lack of fodder. Rescue teams are busy moving people to safety. The roads are submerged in floodwaters, making it extremely difficult for residents to access markets or health facilities. We're deployed here around the clock, not only conducting rescue operations, but also assisting people in travelling to and from their homes, markets and hospitals during the emergencies. Northern Pakistan contains the world's highest number of glaciers outside the polar regions. In recent years, rising temperatures have caused many to melt. The Prime Minister says the risk of glacial lakes flooding and bursting their banks is high. Pakistan's climate story embodies a cruel paradox of our times. Our emissions are less than one percent, yet we are one of the most climate-affected countries with an unprecedented cycle of climate-induced floods, rapid glacial meltdown, blistering heat waves and soil-cracking droughts. Heavy rains are also disturbing people's lives in many parts of the Punjab and Sindh province. Dozens of people die in flooding and other weather-related accidents every year during the monsoon season in Pakistan. According to a new study, extreme weather caused by climate change and global warming is now likely to get worse. Here in Hyderabad and Sindh province, people blame poor urban planning for disrupting life in many areas. Pakistan is one of the countries most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. Experts say efficient urban planning, the restoration of natural floodplains and improved drainage are needed to limit the effects of more weather-related disasters in the future.
