Microsoft has announced plans to reduce its global workforce by 3 percent. The cuts will affect employees across all geographies and levels within the organisation. Based on the company's most recent employee count, this reduction is estimated to impact approximately 6,000 staff.

The company described the move as part of ongoing organisational changes aimed at positioning Microsoft for success in a dynamic marketplace. This is considered the largest workforce reduction at Microsoft since a previous layoff of 10,000 employees in early 2023.

In response to the announcement, Microsoft shares experienced a slight decline. The company has not provided further details about which departments or regions will be most affected by the layoffs.
