This has led to incumbent council members Mike Polencic and Anthony Hairston facing each other in the Ward 10 race, one of the most closely watched contests on the city's northeast side.

Both candidates highlight their commitment to completing ongoing projects and improving public safety, addressing blight, and supporting homeowners on fixed incomes. Despite being colleagues, each sees himself as the underdog and encourages residents to participate in the election.

Two seats were eliminated in this year's election because of population loss in the city, and that has created two races where sitting members of council are facing off against each other. News five's John Kostic tonight with one of the most closely watched on the city's northeast side. Cleveland City Councilman Mike Polencic has been on the job for close to 50 years. 47, John. Still, it begs the question. Why do you still want the headache? I love the job. I love the job. I was born in Glenville, raised in Collins, never lived anyplace else. Northeast side of the city. Proud graduate of Collinwood High School. This is my roots. While he's done a lot in his 12 terms on council, there's more, he argues he needs to see done. You need to finish what you started. You need to finish all these projects that are finally all lining up. The lakefront plan, reimagining Lakeshore Boulevard, the safety plan for ST Clair Avenue, the park expansion of the parks. It's a feeling his opponent in this head to head matchup. Two term Councilman Anthony Hairston totally gets. We both have projects that we want to see finished, right? We're building 16 new homes with Northern High Recovery Association ST Clair Superior is going to house men coming from prison to reunite them back with their Children and their families, right? We want to make sure that that that is that's completed where we launched the $10 million home housing initiative that's going to cover Collinwood and other communities across Cleveland, right? So we both have projects that we want to see continued. The new war tank covers the lakefront on the Euclid border south to east Cleveland. Both men are in agreement that public safety and dealing with blight are among the top issues concerning voters also finding ways to help resident homeowners on fixed incomes to get the resources needed to repair and stay in their homes. They also both tell me they are also in agreement on another matter. It is an easy taking on a colleague, right? You know, you never want to feud, go against or, you know, battle with one of your colleagues, right? And in my particular case, I guess I drew the short stick, right? Yes. Another area of agreement is both men see themselves as the underdog in this race. That's why they will spend these final days telling the people of the new war 10, whoever it is you choose, be sure to voice that choice and vote. Please come out to vote. It's one thing to register, but it's another thing to vote. You get the government you deserve if you don't vote in Cleveland. John Casick News five
