The Sydney Swans have selected Matthew Pavlich, a former Fremantle Dockers player and media personality, as their new CEO. Pavlich brings extensive experience both on and off the field, including business leadership since his retirement from professional football. He acknowledged the challenge of growing AFL in Sydney, traditionally a rugby league stronghold, and expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity.

Elsewhere, the GWS Giants are recovering from a substantial loss to the Bulldogs. The team, currently eighth on the ladder, is focused on their upcoming match against North Melbourne, aiming to finish the season strongly for their Canberra supporters.

The 43-year-old, no stranger to the game, a six-time All-Australian and a 700-goal superstar for the Dockers. What does he do? Centre or go for home? He's thinking about centering, he eventually goes for the goal and he kicks it! Since his retirement in 2016, he's had a successful career in media. I guess people see me on the telly quite a bit and think that that's what I've been doing but realistically for a decade I've been starting, growing and scaling and running businesses. Sydney is NRL territory, but that's already on his radar. Obviously no, the game here has to continue to grow and I look forward to getting stuck into that. It's a great opportunity, Sydney's a great club, it's got a great brand here. And while Dean Cox used to be a fierce rival, their relationship is now crucial. Cox and I, we have similar noses, which is a good start. Can't wait to get stuck in and it's nice to have a bit of a flavour of the west here in Sydney. To be honest, I can't really put it to anything other than just mindset and just making sure when you're down an apple, 40 or 50 points, you've got to make sure you're there to keep it at 40, 50 or make it a 30-point loss. Sitting eighth, they need to beat North Melbourne come Sunday at Manukau.
